I bought the Beauty Redefined book about 5 years ago and really thought it was good work. Giving this book a try I'm sorely disappointed. Suicide Girls have basically become the cookie cutter style of models they were trying to be in the first place and all of the flavor texts accompanying the photos read like your standard issue Reddit post. "I'M SOOOO SOCIALLY AWKWARD!"

too much like a catalog

The quality is high in printing and paper, but lacking in editing. I was disappointed to find a different model on every page, this reads more like a catalog of thumbnails, where I was hoping for more detail on fewer models. 400 pages of 400 girls feels too much like a hastily thrown together internet post, and not a high-art book like I was expecting. The writing consists of a single sentence by each name, which is so little information they might as well not have included it at all.

(1999); Eminent Scientist, Institute for Physical and Chemical Sciences (RIKEN:Japan); Award for Excellence in Adhesion Research, The Society of Adhesion; and The International Research Award, Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE). He is both SAMPE Fellow and SPE Fellow. He has been the coordinator for establishing a graduate college in polymers and petrochemistry at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, in the past 20 years. He has 11 edited and translated books, 40 disclosures and patents, and over 440 papers to his credit. His H-index is 63 with total citations of more than 13,000 (as of 09/18/2014). About the Author
Anton Jaks began his career in Astrology in the early 1970s after graduating from University of California, Santa Barbara. He was a partner in a metaphysical bookstore in Santa Barbara called Starlight Books, and during that time taught and practiced Astrology.

Later, Anton pursued graduate studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, studying primarily Hindu and Buddhist Tantra and Yoga, as well as other Eastern religions.

Anton now spends time traveling in the West with his wife Katherine, practicing Tibetan Buddhism, in the school of Nyingma, primarily as taught by Thinley Norbu Rinpoche.

He writes on Astrology in order to show how the ancient art and science can be used as a tool for personal liberation. His main interest is in restoring the study and practice of Astrology to the prominence it once enjoyed before becoming diluted by the New Age self-absorption with "personal journeys" and the like. That is why he advocates abandoning the Tropical Zodiac and using the Sidereal Zodiac that was used by the ancient Egyptians and Chaldeans.

Totally worth it

I purchased this book cheaper at Lulu, but originally I saw it here on Amazon. For the price, I felt I got more than what I was expecting. I have bought other Astrology books before, which have been a crap shoot, some good and others a total waste of money and time reading. I thought this book had a lot of good information that was useful in my study and highly recomend it to my friends who are also studying with me.

Good sidereal astrology handbook

You wouldn't know it from the title, but the author is a sidereal astrologer and writes from that perspective. As of the date of this review, to my knowledge this is the only book he's written on astrology.

Mr. Jaks explains the difference between the sidereal and tropical zodiacs, the many shortcomings and even harmful ideology of the tropical, and why the sidereal is more valid and real. He covers a lot of ground in this book: signs, planets, houses, aspects, the fixed stars, transits, progressions, returns, etc., with very insightful and useful commentary. He advocates reinstating the "true" astrology that was practiced by the ancients (sidereal), before it was corrupted by the Greeks with the annual calculation of the vernal equinox which is moving backward relative to the constellations (tropical).

Quote: "Tropical astrology has become the plaything of anyone with a new theory about human spiritual evolution, and then to the movement of psychological astrology that has led to astrology becoming a tool for narcissistic self-absorbed study. People, however, want results that are relevant to their activity in the real world in which they live. Charts done using the Sidereal Zodiac are more accurate. Period. Hence, I use the Sidereal Zodiac, and I recommend that you do the same."

Kenneth Oakley (1911-1981) was best known for his work in relative dating with fossils. He graduated from University College in Geology and Anthropology, and worked for the British Museum. He had an international reputation in his field and was particularly well known for his part in exposing the Piltdown fraud. His publications include Man the Tool-Maker, and over 100 papers, many of them on analytical methods of dating bones, particularly the fluorine-dating method.

Lamentablemente no parece un libro serio que busque ayudar realmente a las personas que se pueden enfrentar a personas que utilizan el maltrato frecuentemente. Mas allá de describir abundantemente las características de una persona que maltrata (para lo cual utiliza terminos que me generan dudas con respecto a su verdadero significado), es falto de elementos practicos que puedan ser utilizados para abordar a estas personas. La verdad no pude ir mas allá de su primer capítulo, ya que me pareció una perdida de tiempo el continuar con su lectura.

About the Author
Harry Colestock is an electrical engineer who designed and built automation systems for over 40 years. A specialist in robot productivity improvement, he has analyzed robotics for hundreds of companies in the auto industry as well as other high-volume industries. As chief engineer of Advanced Technology and Testing at Ingersoll-Rand, Mr. Colestock led the effort in the design and installation of some of the most advanced robotic systems in the world. His last job, before retiring, was the design and installation of an entire assembly and test line for the automatic assembly and testing of the six cylinder engine for General Motors' Holden division in Melbourne, Australia. He now lives in Petoskey, Michigan.

Outstanding robotics reference

Now that robots have become more affordable, they are "trickling" down into smaller businesses and being used for more unexpected and varied tasks in larger enterprises. This book will have you thinking about new ways to employ robotic systems and machine vision in your operations. There are numerous descriptions of successful robotic implementations, an excellent section on productivity of robotic systems, and clear descriptions of methods of calculating payback. Very helpful as well when working with management to get approval of a new robotic system. Recommended!!!

Best Resource for All Things InDesign CC

I've owned previous versions of Real World Adobe InDesign, and this version for InDesign CC again meets all my page layout needs from complex long to simple short documents.

Regarding Kendall L. Vaughan's review above, I think he should be sending his rant to Adobe, not to the authors of Real World Adobe InDesign CC.

InDesign CC and Education

I’m doing research in education about creativity with the use of digital media. The more I’m learning about InDesign CC, the more I’m becoming convinced that it has a very strong potential for becoming one of central platforms for teaching and learning in the future. Its interactivity allows a teacher to deliver material with presentations that are much more appealing to our day students. It facilitates the opportunity for a teacher to be an author of the content with the implementation of embedded images, videos and audio components. It enables students with the rights of becoming co-creators of the learning modules. They can add their own interactive features to the body of knowledge that the whole class generates. It makes learning so personal and fun. I wish there was more awareness among teachers about these fantastic possibilities of InDesign CC.
As I learn more about InDesign, I also learn about one of the authors of this book. Using this opportunity I would like to personally thank David Blatner for caring not only about InDesign but also about wide community of its users. When I needed help with my InDesign troubles, I contacted him and he answered and gave me very valuable advice. I listen to David Blatner video-teachings on Lynda's and enjoy them the most. He explains things like he knows and cares about the people who he is teaching. I asked him questions on InDesign Secrets and he really tried to help.

I can say without a doubt that I was made to be in a classroom. I followed the footsteps of my father, a 35-year middle school math teaching veteran, into this challenging yet rewarding career. My college experience began as a community college student at Lakeland College in Mattoon, Illinois. From there, I received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Science in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University. I accepted a tenure-track faculty position at Parkland College, where I have taught developmental and college-level courses for 15 years. I had the opportunity to begin writing textbooks shortly after I started teaching at Parkland. My then department chair and mentor, James W. Hall, and I co-authored several textbooks in Beginning and Intermediate Algebra. In the fall of 2011, our department began discussing the idea of creating two tracks through our beginning and intermediate algebra courses. The idea stemmed from two issues. First, most of our beginning and intermediate algebra students were headed to either our Liberal Arts Math or our Introduction to Statistics course. Second, we wanted to beef up intermediate algebra to better prepare those students who were headed to college algebra. These were two competing ideas! Increasing the algebraic rigor of these courses seemed to “punish” students who were not heading to college algebra. With the two track system, we implemented a solution that best serves both groups of students. I have to admit that I was initially concerned that offering an alternate path through developmental mathematics for students not planning to take college algebra would lead to a lowering of standards. However, my participation in our committee investigating this idea led me to believe it was possible to offer a rigorous course that was exceedingly more appropriate for this group of students. Since there were no materials for the course, I began creating my own and was paired by McGraw Hill with Dave Sobecki. Together, we have created the material that I have been using for class testing. After a semester and a half of piloting these materials and seeing the level of enthusiasm and engagement in the mathematical conversations of my students, I am now convinced that this is an ideal course to refine and offer. As a trusted colleague told me, “this is just a long overdue idea.” Outside of the classroom and away from the computer, I am kept educated, entertained and ever-busy my wonderful wife, Nikki, and our two children, Charlotte, 6 and Jake, 5. I am an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoy playing recreational softball and golf in the summertime with colleagues and friends.

When I rented it they said I would have it ...

When I rented it they said I would have it until December 6 (the end of the school semester) then they sent me an email on Nov. 6 telling that my last day to have the book was Nov 7 and wanted me to pay more money to extend the rental. This is a scam and a rip off. They know that you will need it until the end of the semester and advertise that you will have it until the end of the semester then half way through the take it away and hit you up for more money. Don't ever rent school books from them.

Good short stories

Good stories

I really enjoyed the six Novellas contained in this book. They are about the Rescue Squad in the Hidden Cove Fire Department. Each story highlights the life of a firefighter and their journey toward love.
All the stories took the life of a firefighter and showed that each one is different has a different life, married, single, young, old, woman, male, but they all have one thing in common - they want to save lives.
The stories have some common links - two are an arsonist and a reporter. The stories have a lot of fire scenes which you can tell are well researched and very interesting. I like reading about the equipment and training -
It was great to see the characters from many of Ms. Shay's books featured in these short stories. To see how everyone is doing. I have read almost all of her books and it was great to see all my "friends"
I was happy to review this book--I was given a complimentary copy but would have bought the book anyway--If you like Ms Shay and you like firefighters this one is for you.

Wonderfully Done!

Whether full length novels or short stories, you can't miss with Kathryn Shay! This collection of short stories had it all: mystery, romance, laughter and tears. I couldn't put the book (actually, my iPad) down! I had to tether myself to the outlet as I ran out of battery and couldn't wait to recharge my tablet. The stories are a series that has a mystery tying them together. Even though this is a continuation of her "America's Bravest: Hidden Cove" series, they do stand alone from the original full length books BUT I recommend you don't miss out on a wonderful series! I recommend you get the original series too: "After the Fire," "On the Line," and "Nothing More to Lose."

love these stories!

I have really enjoyed Kathryn Shay's books, and this was no exception.
These stories were really interesting to me, as I have no firefighters close to me. What a brave life they lead.

It truly boggles my mind the amount of research that Ms Shay did for these stories. But so worth it, and I sure appreciate that she did.

I care about the characters, and want to read more about them. I'll be checking out more of her firefighter books - well, scratch that, I'll be checking out more of her books - of any kind.
