This is a great introductory text!

Sara Trenholm is a gifted writer. This is another in a series of well prepared communication texts by this author.
The healthy balance between theory and practical advice makes it both challenging and yet easy to digest. I have used this text as a resource since it first crossed my desk in its first edition.
My only criticism of this book is that it is not visually appealing. However, the person who wants information will find it to be highly pracital and usable.

What I expected!

I chose this rating because I knew I was buying a used book yet, like it was stated, there would be minimal writing in it--true to your word! I anticipated it being in worse condition and was pleased with the great condition it is in. Also, it came in time for my University course! I have already highly recommended Amazon to many other students who are buying textbooks. It saves money and I am impressed!. I recommend this book to anyone interested in an introductory book on communication as well as the obvious--a required reading.

Yesenia Montilla is a New York City poet with Afro-Caribbean roots. Excellent Textbook-Elsevier service Sucks

There is no issue with the quality of this text-one of the classics of diagnostic ultrasound.

However gaining access to the 242 video clips shown in the book is an absolute nightmare. Elsevier has this opaque,time consuming rigamarole to register purchase and to create access to the video clip. Anyone who scans knows how much these clips add to the material presented in the text.

Unfortunately,Elsevier has a silly system with a bookscratch code like a lottery ticket,multiple registration pages, all of which fail to permit access. Fill out all the forms then wait several days for a sales rep to call you!! For a book you've already purchased for $320USD???????

Pretty sad! As a result- I would have to downgrade Rumacks 4th Ed to a 4 star item. This flaw does reflect directly upon the quality and usefulness of this edition,so long as easy access is blocked from the substantial educational material contained in the innaccesible video clips. Hopefully the editor will find a new publisher more responsive to its customers for the subsequent editions. (I have owned the 1st and 2nd editions of this text,btw.)

1/26/12 Update: Interestingly the Feb 2012 RSNA publication RADIOLOGY, also has high praise for the 4th ED, while being critical of the online activation rigamarole . ( [...] ) Subscription required for full review.

Great for Students But Needs Some Updating

To start off, I am a CPA with 20 years of professional experience so I do have a little bit of a background with the topics in this book. I found a lot of it interesting and some of it understandably basic considering my background but not a detriment to this book.

I think the authors do a great job providing high-level examples of the types of fraud that can occur as well as specific examples they or associates of theirs have run across in their careers. Nothing beats hearing the war stories of the type of company, type of fraud, how the fraud was pulled off and, ultimately, how the perpetrator was caught.

If you are a student in high school or college (or thinking about college) and not sure of what you may want to do or doing investigations of various career paths armed with an accounting degree, I would highly recommend this book. You will probably need to have a slight bit - but not much - of an understanding of accounting, but you certainly don't need to understand intricate debits and credits.

One of the advertisements on the back covers says "detect the perpetrators of fraud and their methods by using the latest technology and investigative tools." That's largely misleading as while the book has a plethora of examples, many of them are dated such as the stores that still use pneumatic tubes for cash receipts and many other cash-intensive examples. With the majority of today's transactions occurring with a credit card, the authors may want to consider a refresh of some of the examples cited.

All-in-all, I think this is a very good overview of the field and should help some students out in their career choices, but not so informative for really learning the latest techniques and fraud occurring in today's society.

Good supplement to accounting classes.

I would imagine most reviewers of this book will be acccountants, as I am. That being said I don't know if you can really "dumb down" the accounting side of things enough for non-accountants but this dummies book does an admirable job. I found it to be an interesting read with some decent examples. It will NOT replace any of your accounting classes in college but it is a good book to read, especially if you are going into the auditing field. Forensic accounting is a hot job due to all the financial fraud that has occurred over the past several years and you could do worse than to read this book for a foundation related to this type of work.

Like the other "For Dummies" books, this is an easy to understand, basic guide that gives a lot of general information broken down in language the average person can easily understand. The book has a humorous side and also offers key definitions and helpful tips that are called out throughout. I think students or people who are interested in learning more about the field of forensic accounting will definitely benefit from this book. Those who have a deeper knowledge of the subject area should seek a more advanced book, however.
